Abstract
In this work, we perform an information-theory based investigation of various despeckling algorithms for remote-sensed synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. Any noise filtering process can also be abstracted as an information enhancement process. Hence, analysing speckle filters by looking at the changes they make to Fisher information of the data can be useful in developing a new generation of despeckling algorithms. In this research, we shall analyse Fisher information of SAR data before and after various despeckling algorithms. Firstly, we present the initial results of our work where we show the histogram of SAR data before and after the application of a few popular despeckling algorithms. Secondly, we shall also present the Fisher information content before and after despeckling algorithms which can be used to design information-theory-based despeckling algorithms in the future.
