Abstract

In the Polish sedimentary basins, beginning with the Baltic Basin in the north to the Lublin Basin in the southeast of Poland, there are numerous siltstone and mudstone deposits, rich in organic matter, which are the exploration targets in terms of unconventional reservoirs. Paper presents application of two methods in heterogeneity analysis of shale formations: the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Heterogeneous Rock Analysis Clustering (HRA). Methods were applied to the petrophysical, chemical, geochemical parameters obtained from laboratory measurements on core samples from the one well L-1. As a result of PCA, two main components building the homogenous group of parameters were determined which refer to organic matter and clay mineral type. HRA clustering gave the information about formations heterogeneity. The most heterogeneous shale formation, taking all available parameters into consideration, is Sasino formation but in case of pore space structure heterogeneity Jantar Member.
