Abstract
Joint analysis of nuclear magnetic resonance, NMR and mercury intrusion porosimetry, MIP data facilitated the development of a universal way to evaluate the properties of porous structures of the examined rocks. The object of the analysis covers carbonates and shale formations being potentially unconventional resources of hydrocarbons in Poland. The CMPG measurements with short inter-echo spacing TE=60 mu s have been applied for calculation of the transverse relaxation time spectrums and corresponding cumulative porosity especially in nano- and micropores. The experiments were performed using specially designed prototype Q-sense RF coil with high SNR allowing to observe signal from nanopores. NMR experiment was done twice, for fully brine saturated and dry samples. The same experiments were repeated for carbonates samples. Carbonates are treated as conventional reservoir but with very complicated porous and fractures systems. Results showed that differences in capillary water content suggest that in this part of pore systems, pores are open and connected. On the basis of the data collected the correlation relation between the transverse relaxation time and the pore throat diameter was calculated. Analysis were done by using methods of graphical plots overlaying and home - built software imProving accuracy of determination of pore size distribution. The differentiation between NMR and MIP distributions reflects the heterogeneous character of the set of samples diversified in terms of lithology and age. Integration of NMR and MIP results was enabled getting the information on pore diameter and extrapolation of the relationship to lower pores.
