Abstract
Analysis of the pore space properties represents a foundation of petrophysical characterization of reservoir rocks. It essentially enables a proper evaluation of the capacity of rocks to store and transfer reservoir fluids. The study concerns mercury injection capillary pressure, high -resolution X-ray computed microtomography, low field nuclear magnetic resonance and gas permeability measurements on Miocene sandstones. The rock core samples were taken from the S-3 well from the depth interval of 1769-1925 meters. The well is located in the Miocene Carpathian Foredeep in south-east Poland, which represents a prospective area for the occurrence of hydrocarbon resources. Results of the applied laboratory methods enabled detailed analysis of the pore space and estimation of porosity and permeability. Analyzed sandstone samples reveal the porous type of the reservoir space, characterized by the high proportion of mesopores (0,5 2,5 mu m), high values of effective porosity and low values of permeability. The data obtained from the applied methods exhibit relatively strong correlation. The presented results show that the Miocene sandstones represent a hybrid type of reservoir rocks, with features typical of both conventional and unconventional reservoir deposits.
