Abstract
Evolution of non-ferrous metals base in the century 1913÷2013, when economic statistics were available has been described in the paper. During this period, non-ferrous metals markets in Poland and abroad have changed enormously, both for producers and consumers. Balancing of production, trade volumes and price quotations started, international cooperation and technologies of minerals and raw materials developed. New metals entered the wide use, recycled raw materials have become an important additional source of metals. Despite the huge increase in consumption and concerns related to the mineral deposits depletion demand is satisfactorily met from various parts of the world and emerging crises appear short-term in nature. In the long term a decline in non-ferrous metals prices, measured in constant currency, is marked. Growing knowledge on the impact of various non-ferrous metals and their compounds on living organisms, resulting in introduced regulations on health and environment, had a big impact on the industry. In the middle of the analyzed period the monthly Ores and Nonferrous Metals was established, that records primarily the progress and problems in Poland in the field of non-ferrous metals beginning with the geology and mining, through enriching, metallurgy, processing, and recycling. Within 60 years of its issue prospects of development of the various sectors of non-ferrous metals industry changed significantly. Changing resource policy and the evolution of apparent sufficiency of the resource base of the world and Poland at various periods in its history after the First World War has been discussed.
Streszczenie
Przedstawiono ewolucję bazy surowcowej metali nieżelaznych w stuleciu 1913÷2013, od kiedy statystyki gospodarcze są dostępne. W omawianym okresie rynki tych metali na świecie i w Polsce uległy ogromnym zmianom, zarówno po stronie producentów jak i konsumentów. Rozpoczęto bilansowanie produkcji, obrotów handlowych i notowania cen, rozwinęła się współpraca międzynarodowa i technologie pozyskiwania surowców. Weszły do szerokiego użytku nowe metale, ważnym źródłem stały się surowce wtórne. Pomimo ogromnego wzrostu konsumpcji i obaw o wyczerpanie złóż, zapotrzebowanie jest pokrywane z różnych części świata a pojawiające się kryzysy okazują się krótkotrwałymi. W długoterminowej perspektywie rysuje się spadek cen surowców metali nieżelaznych, mierzonych w walucie stałej. Poszerzyła się wiedza o oddziaływaniu poszczególnych metali nieżelaznych i ich związków na organizmy żywe, a wprowadzane przepisy o ochronie zdrowia i środowiska wywarły duży wpływ na przemysł. W połowie omawianego okresu powołano miesięcznik Rudy i Metale Nieżelazne, który rejestruje przede wszystkim postęp i problemy w Polsce w dziedzinie geologii złóż i górnictwa metali nieżelaznych poczynając, przez wzbogacanie mechaniczne i ogniowe, hutnictwo i przetwórstwo metali nieżelaznych, po recykling. W ciągu 60 lat jego wydawania zmieniły się istotnie perspektywy rozwoju różnych sektorów przemysłu metali nieżelaznych. Omówiono ewolucję polityki surowcowej oraz pozorną wystarczalność bazy surowcowej świata i Polski w różnych okresach jej dziejów po I wojnie światowej.
