Abstract
Easy access to digital geophysical data, in particular seismic reflection data and wireline logs, is crucial for research projects and student theses. The current system grants substantial discounts such as 2% of basic data value per year and 99.9% for research and educational projects, but final fees are still rather high, often above educational or research budgets. In this paper we analyse various aspects of access to geophysical data, including also a short overview of very user-friendly approaches in other countries, and propose certain modifications of the current system of access to geophysical data from public domain. We hope that this paper will stimulate discussion on that very important and timely topic, that would eventually result in certain modifications of legal system, much needed by educators and researchers.
