Abstract
The subject of this article is the problem of controlling the device for the rehabilitation of the upper limb. Due to the complexity of this issue, the considerations were limited to the rehabilitation of the elbow joint in the full range of its mobility. The solutions were presented with an emphasis on the aspect of the control systems used in them. The concept of force control by means of electrical muscle activity was proposed and tested. The focus was on the possibility of using the EMG signal as a signal controlling the rehabilitation device for the purposes of exercises requiring the knowledge of momentary muscle strength. The course and results of the research aimed at testing the algorithm for estimating the value of the instantaneous muscle strength based on the EMG signal are presented.
