Abstract
Eugenol is a substance that has a significant impact on the environment in which it is found. In addition to the fact that it is commonly found as an ingredient in a wide range of cosmetics based on clove oil, as a safe component that provides a pleasant clove aroma of products, used in the wrong way and the improper concentration causes harmful effects on the ecosystem in which it is located. An example of this phenomenon is the effect of eugenol, described in the text, as a way to reduce stress in fish caused by their culture or transport. Studies have shown that although fish treated with eugenol-based anti-stress drug behaved calmer and better tolerated the conditions of cultivation and transport, high toxicity was detected among other microorganisms belonging to this ecosystem (bacteria, algae, and crustaceans). In low concentrations, eugenol shows health-promoting properties. Compared to wild basil (OcimumGratissimum, Ocimum Sanctus), 4-Allyl-2-methoxyphenol has lower antioxidant properties. Derivative of vitamin E (Trolox) relative to eugenol has greater antioxidant properties. The greatest antioxidant properties showed Eugenol and Eugenol’s derivative - 5-Allyl-3-nitrobenzene-1,2-diol. However, the lowest antioxidants properties showed: 2-Methoxy-4-prop-1-enylphenyl acetate and 4-Allyl-2-methoxy-5-nitrophenylacetate.
