Abstract
The main focus of this work was research of composite hybrid rocket fuels, based on epoxy matrix filled with paraformaldehyde powder. Fuel grains of various compositions were prepared and tested in a lab-scale test bench with gaseous N2O as an oxidizer. Test parameters were chosen so as to provide a wide range of GOX in order to estimate regression rate parameters, Isp and C*. Additionally, the materials were investigated using FTIR, TG/DSC and confocal microscopy. All compositions were compared to HDPE and Nylon as a reference. Discussion regarding the fuel preparation procedures and preliminary propellant selection for a 10 kNs hybrid rocket motor is provided. 2019 by German Aerospace Center (DLR).
