Abstract

The growing demand for finely grained (<10 μm) materials, as well as the increase in energy prices, stimulate progress in research on basic comminution aimed at developing eco-innovative technologies. It requires more favorable technological parameters, including economic viability and less harmful impact on the environment. The life cycle cost (LCC) is now the important tool for assessment the feasibility the new technical and technological solutions as it takes into account both the capital and operational cost. Currently used devices and systems have limited possibilities in the scope of significant reduction of their operational costs (mainly electricity consumption). The selection of the mill and its technical parameters determines the particle size distribution of a product. The capacity of grinding equipment is strictly dependent on the type of feed. It is worth to pay attention to such parameters as the efficiency and energy consumption of various types of grinding installations, since their knowledge is necessary for the initial assessment of the usefulness of the mill. The paper shows selected mills designed for fine grinding, characterized by conventional and non-standard solutions with low energy consumption. An innovative electromagnetic mill with its working parameters and results of preliminary experiments on its efficiency and energy consumption are summarized.
