Abstract

Cogeneration is a well-known and widely used technology. It is fairly common in power station, the popularity of which has slipped due to the increasing exploitation of distributed generation and renewable energy. While the potential of the central power plant is heavily managed, the possibilities of implementing distributed cogeneration sources, micro combined heat and power (mCHP), are unexploited in many European countries including Poland. The legislation, awareness and cost-effectiveness of technology have a significant impact on the mCHP system. The following text describes the regulations in European and Polish law and recent amendments, with particular emphasis on the energy-related products Directive (ERP) of the European Parliament. The regulations included in the ERP Directive and the implementing rules, indicated the mCHP development in recent years. Therefore, it is necessary to examine in detail its economic and legal repercussions. In addition, the article compares economic conditions for selected countries and giving particular examples. © 2016 International Multidisciplinary Scientific Geoconference. All rights reserved.
