Abstract
This paper presents the analyzed chemical composition and concentration of some natural radionuclides in the water samples collected from ten water intakes of the Polish Carpathian health resorts and from the Wielka Pieniawa intake located in the Lower Silesia. The investigated waters belong to the different hydrochemical types (HCO3-Ca-Mg, HCO3-Na, SO4-Ca-Na i Cl-Na), and their mineralizations range from above 1000 mg/L to 117000 mg/L. The activity concentration of radium isotopes in the studied waters are visibly high, but the concentrations of the uranium, lead and radon isotopes are low, excluding the thermal water from PGP1 Banska Nizna, where concentration of uranium is higher than the permissible level for drinking water. Assuming that the average daily consumption amounts to two litres of mineral water for adult and 0.3 litres of therapeutic water through 21 days for patient, the both the annual and the curative period committed effective dose rates resulted from the absorption of the radionuclides by the intake of the investigated waters are lower than the maximum permissible dose rate recommended by WHO.
