Abstract
Materials used for aluminum beverage can production must meet strict requirements of mechanical and plastic properties. These requirements ensure minimization of defects in an optimized production line, trouble-free operations and good efficiency of production. Properties of a final product depend on several factors, such as: chemical composition of the 3104 aluminum alloy, sheet rolling method, lubricant layer and cooling mode. In this study properties of six types of sheets from four different suppliers were tested. Distribution of thickness was analyzed both in width and length of the coils. The sets of samples were cut out from coils in three directions 0°, 45° and 90° in relation to the rolling direction. On the basis of tensile testing, such parameters as: yield strength, tensile strength, elastic modulus and elongation were determined. The results were summarized taking into account their variable values depending on sampling directions. Forming limit curves were defined for each of the sheets. In order to identify the effect of chosen parameters on thickness of a wall in final products and semi-finished products, measurements of thickness were conducted on various stages of forming. © (2015) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
