Abstract

Hot rolling is one of the most commonly used metal forming operation to manufacture long and flat products. In multi-pass rolling proper assessment of the interactions between strain state and microstructure evolution plays a crucial role. Thus, the main subject of the present work is to use multiscale numerical model of hot rolling combining Finite Element (FE) and Cellular Automata (CA) approaches to model multi-pass rolling process. To describe the microstructure behavior under deformation, a Digital Material Representation (DMR) framework is used during finite element simulation of rolling processes. As a result, detailed information regarding microstructure morphology as well as e.g. strain localization development along various micro scale features e.g. grain boundaries, etc. can be obtained. These information are then an input for the CA model of the static recrystallization occurring between subsequent stages of multi-pass hot rolling. Copyright © 2014 MS&T14®.
