Abstract
The paper presents a study of energy flow in mechanical structures. These structures nowadays are commonly produced from various types of materials. The main advantage of the presented method is that it can identify the paths and intensity of the energy in an object that is under dynamic loads. Moreover, the elaborated algorithm can analyze laminate plates showing the energy distribution and flow directions in single layers of these materials, providing ply-by-ply results, which were also described and discussed. These paths can be disturbed and modified by damping elements, which results in overall dynamic behavior improvements. The inserts can be part of the structure or additional dissipation components; both cases are described in this paper. This type of information can be useful in Noise, Vibration and Harshness computations, which have gained particular importance in the current design process.
