Abstract

The article discusses the problems of measurements of displacements and deformations of internal structural elements of reinforced concrete multi-flue industrial chimneys. Multi-flue chimneys, like all types of tower structures, require regular inspection of their condition. Due to their specific construction it is necessary to broaden the scope of traditionally carried out periodic inspection of these objects. The paper presents the concept of measuring two multi-flue chimneys of different construction, the results of the measurements and their development. One chimney with the height of H = 100 m, which was subjected to tests, had two internal flues. Taking the construction of the chimney into consideration, the focus was primarily to determine the deformations of the internal steel load-bearing beams. The measurement was performed using precision leveling and referred to an external height system. The second object of the study was a six-flue chimney (H = 300 m). Due to the fact that the flues inside the structure were self-supporting, the main purpose of the measurements was to determine the deflections of each flue axis. The measurements of the reference points, which were stabilized on the chimney bearing shaft, were also performed as well as measuring the verticality of its axis. The chimneys are located in power plants. They are important links in the production process of industrial plants. Excluding them from the operation as a result of a malfunction may cause its discontinuance. Deformations of internal structural elements of multi-flue industrial chimneys, which will be determined periodically, will enable to recognize a potential danger in advance.
