Abstract
The paper attempts to answer the question: who is postmodern man? This anthropological construct emerges at present as a result of developing globalization processes, which not only transform the structures and social interaction between people, but also concern the very structure of individual human existence. These changes are a result of the development of communication based on advance in the field of telecommunications and the expansion of the Internet into areas of man’s social life in which we all are, involuntarily participating. Therefore, the opinion has been presented, regarding these changes, of Zygmunt Bauman, Jeremy Rifkin and Jean-Françoise Lyotard. The latter introduced the notion of diffused reason as a form of the common mind in the postmodern society, replacing the objective reason which described the rational position of an individual in the industrial society. This construct presents interesting possibilities of describing and explaining the way of life of people in the emerging society of a new type in global dimensions. As a result of the transformations of a globalizational, glocalizational and globalutional (postindustrial revolution) nature people are involuntarily transforming their own traditional rationality into a new type, which Wolfgang Welsch calls a transversal rationality. It allows people to find their bearings and act in the area of diffused reason of contemporary societies and to reach dissension or consensus with them, which is made possible by the ability to think through difference (différence) that is to think simultaneously within several models of rationality and to move between them. This characteristic, in the author’s opinion, is essential for understanding the existence of postmodern man.
