Abstract
Operation stresses on insulation systems can come from normal AC sinusoidal voltage, inverter fed systems and also stresses related to disturbances, including slow and fast over-voltages characterized by slow or fast rise times. In case of inverter driven devices one can distinguish periodic pulse stress, having fast rise and fall-time and high repetition rate. The paper presents investigations of influence of different voltage waveform, with special focus on the rise time, on the development of partial discharges (PD), which manifest different features than when subjected to pure sinusoidal waveform. The presented results have been obtained on polymer thermosetting samples. The influence of such high frequency stresses on the insulation system requires investigations of PD mechanism at fast changing stimulus in the structure of material but also of new diagnostic approach.
