Abstract
At the village of Złockie near Muszyna, in the Krynica Subunit of the Magura Nappe, the Outer Flysch Carpathians, there is a CO2 mofette. Localised in the Złocki stream above the mentioned village, the mofette is covered by waters from the stream itself as well as from proximal subaquaeous mineral springs, with abundant ochre. Towards the village of Jastrzȩbik there are numerous other mofettes, localised parallel to a latitudinal overthrust situated in the axial part of Szczawnik - Złockie - Jastrzȩbik anticline. The mofette at Zlockie exhales daily ab. 15,000 3 CO2, derived from a deep basement, subducted under the Carpathian orogen. In 1998 the mofette at Złockie was established as the Prof. H. Świdziński monument of inanimate nature. It has also been postulated to establish this mofette as a reserve of inanimate nature and to place it on the European List of Geosites.
