Abstract
We study the magnetic dipole moment produced by a stack of semiconductor quantum rings, each charged by a single electron in a magnetic field parallel to the axis of the stack. At large interring spacing in most ground states minimal interaction energy is achieved when electrons in separate rings rotate with different angular momenta and thus the magnetic dipole generated by each ring is different. For smaller interring spacing the electrons in adjacent rings never occur one above the other due to the strong electrostatic coupling. When no electron is allowed to rotate faster than its neighbors they all turn around as a rigid system, each ring generating the same contribution to the total magnetization.
