Abstract
The influence of calcium sulphite hemihydrate (CaSO3.0-5H(2)O) on hydration kinetics of cements have been studied by the use of several complimentary methods. Due to the complexity of direct studies of cement, resulting from the polymineral composition of cement clinkers, the experiments have been performed on the proper mixtures of alite and tricalcium aluminate. The studies of types and quantity of reaction products being formed, as well as the kinetics of hydration along with chemical composition development of the liquid phase, made it possible to describe, to some extent, a function of calcium sulphite in the hydration of cement and, indirectly, its influence on cement properties such as water demand. setting time, and strength development of cement mortars.
