Abstract
Cone-in-cone structures from six localities in Lower Cretaceous strata (Verovice and Cieszyn beds) of the Outer (Flysch) Carphathians have been described. They occur in layers of fibrous calcite, in most cases in the vicinity of siderite concreations. These structures from compact or fragmentary sets of columns of cones, with clay patches, conical films, ring-shaped relief and fragmentary cone coatings. Cone-in-cone structures are apparently an effect of compressive shearing, brought about by lithostatic pressure due to growing siderite concretions, helped by processes of dissolving and removing of calcite along the conical surfaces.
