Abstract
In the present studies the sulphidation behaviour of Cr-Mn steels were investigated if: H-2/H2S between 1073 K -1273 K. Two sulphur pressures were used (p(S2) = 1 Pa and p(S2) = 10(-3) Pa). The influence of sulphur partial pressure on the composition and growth rate of the scale was observed. The behaviour of the 19Cr-9Ni steel under the same investigation condition is compared with Cr-Mn steels. The sulphidation rate of Cr-Ni steel at p(S2) =10(-3) Pa and at 1073 K is similar to the sulphidation rate of Cr-Mn steel. In this case the scale is built mainly with FeS MnS, CrS whereas Ni3S2 are thermodynamically unstable. At high sulphur partial pressure (p(S2) = 1 Pa) the sulphidation rate of Cr-Ni steel increases and is one order of magnitude higher than sulphidation rate of Cr-Mn steels.
