Abstract
This study investigates the household-level antecedents of food waste prevention through the lens of ecological systems theory. It examines the influence of religious beliefs, social norms, food purchasing habits, and household food dynamics on food waste prevention, with "educational impact" as a moderating factor. The findings highlight the stronger role of social norms and household food dynamics compared to religious influences in shaping food waste prevention behaviors. Conducted within a dynamically transforming cultural context, the study reveals a paradox where social norms, despite being rooted in religious traditions, exert a more significant influence on waste reduction efforts. These insights contribute to addressing a critical theoretical gap in food waste behavior research by emphasizing the interplay between cultural values and household practices. The study offers practical implications for policymakers, educators, and businesses aiming to design targeted interventions, educational campaigns, and sustainable business models that promote responsible food consumption and waste reduction at the household level.
