Abstract
Located in the center of the Balkan Peninsula, with a relatively small area, Macedonia is characterized by a complex geological and tectonic structures that are the result of long-term and intensive processes in the geological past. This also had an impact on the appearance of numerous mineral and thermo-mineral waters extremely diverse in terms of their chemical composition, which attracted the attention of local residents, passers-by, and those who sought salvation in the healing power of water. Historical monuments and records, as well as archaeological artifacts, confirm that there were health resorts and spas in their vicinity. Today, there are 7 spas on the territory of Macedonia: Kumanovo Spa, Katlanovo Spa, Kežovica Spa, Negorci, Bansko Spa, Debar Spa and Kosovrasti Spa. In addition to the mentioned spas, there are a number of occurrences of these waters that are more or less known. What characterizes all waters is that detailed and systematic research of these waters, their genesis and hydrogeochemical characteristics have not been done so far. In this regard, during the previous 2 years (2023-2024), sampling of these waters was carried out at 66 locations with the aim of examining their basic chemical composition as well as their healing factor based on the micro components present.
