Abstract
Two sets of Fe100-xCrx alloys with x = 4.85. 12.7, 26.3 and 45.5 were investigated with Mössbauer spectroscopy aimed at revealing an effect of strain on distribution of Cr atoms in the Fe-matrix. One set of samples was constituted by cold-rolled (CR) or strained alloys and the other one by strain-free (SF) alloys. Mössbauer spectra, recorded at room temperature, were analyzed in terms of two methods: (1) hyperfine field distribution and (2) two-shell model. Results obtained based on (1) and (2) gave clear evidence that the distribution of Cr atoms in the CR samples was very different than the one in the SF ones. The difference was found to depend on the content of Cr in all samples except in the one with x = 4.85 where it was negligible. In particular, in the SF samples a significant reduction of the number of Cr atoms within the first two neighbor shells was revealed. The reduction was stronger for the next-nearest neighbor shell.
