Abstract
This study explores the key determinants of airfare pricing on short-haul intra-European routes. Using a dataset of over 650,000 itineraries, we examine how variables such as departure day of week, ticket purchase day of week, number of passengers per reservation, and layover characteristics, among others, affect ticket prices. We combine visualizations and hypothesis testing with multiple linear regression. The findings reveal that for low-cost carriers, purchasing many tickets within a single reservation typically results in the price per passenger higher by approx. 29PLN. Additionally, departures on Mondays are generally costlier than mid-week flights. Typically, a longer layover leads to a lower airfare, although the prices do not decrease further if the transit is very long. Purchasing the ticket during the weekend might slightly increase the average price. However, more research is needed to confirm the existence of this relationship.
