Abstract
The article presents experiences related to the introduction of the Challenge-Based Learning and Problem-Based Learning methodologies to activate students through challenges in which participants from different universities participate. CHEMKATON - The Great Challenge - Chemistry has already been held twice. In this two-stage competition, students analyze and solve engineering problems formulated as part of the competition, gaining knowledge and skills necessary in real-world engineering practice. Several dozen teams participated in each edition, with 10 being qualified for the finals each time. All participants could follow the qualification phase and learn from each other. The structure and course of the competition are presented. This is a departure from the classic model of teaching in the classroom. Such an event fosters students more willing to engage in the learning process and provides, in addition to academic knowledge, valuable engineering experience necessary in their future professional careers.
