Abstract
A new hybrid coating type consisting of combined refractory coating composed of an external Al-Mo-Si layer and an intermediate, modulated, multilayer TiCN/TiNC diffusion barrier coating has been studied in this work. Sulphidation and oxidation kinetics of Al-Mo and Al-Mo-Si coatings on Cr and Ni-Cr steels have been determined as a function of temperature (973 - 1173 K) at sulphur and oxygen partial pressure of 1 and 100 kPa, respectively. The coatings on Fe17Cr steel showed good resistance preventing oxidation up to 1073 K; their oxidation rates being comparable to, or even lower than, the oxidation rates of chromia forming materials. These coatings also showed satisfactory sulphidadon resistance up to 1073K.
