Abstract
Home Novel Innovation Design for the Future of Health Chapter Health Innovations from an Innovators’ Perspective Michael Friebe Chapter First Online: 27 November 2022 225 Accesses Abstract Innovation is the translation of technologies and inventions to a market. There are different starting and obviously different ending points. And with exponential and converging technologies, huge challenges in health delivery to solve, and the need for a novel approach to health, there are a lot of opportunities for health innovators. This paper will discuss some of the innovation starting points (individual turned entrepreneur, innovator, intrapreneur, and entrepreneur turned intrapreneur), the differences and areas where the health innovation process differs significantly from other industries. And it will present the core principles of the book. Having a purpose is an important starting point for most innovation activities, but even more when you deal with health-related issues and identifying solutions. The economic scaling and growth for health-related innovations is typically more expensive, takes more time, and requires more patience from all involved, especially from the innovators and investors. And with the expected massive changes in all aspects of health (service, delivery, move to prevention, needed cost reduction, ageing population, and many more) you need to have a disruptive/radical vision (10 years) towards reaching your purpose, with intermediate more traditional and incremental intermediaries (2–3 years).
