Abstract

The guide vanes used in the aircraft engines are cast from Ni- or Co-based superalloys. High mechanical strength and excellent resistance to hot corrosion make these materials irreplaceable for manufacturing such components. Due to the extremely high requirements in terms of geometrical complexity, dimensional accuracy, and further service requirements, cast guide vanes are among the most complex components produced via lost-wax casting. With the dimensions of the single casting up to several hundred millimeters and simultaneously several dozen blades, the same strict requirements are obligatory as for blade or vane cluster, which significantly increases the manufacturing difficulty. These components are serviced in the modern aircraft engines at temperatures up to 950 °C under changeable loads and stresses in harsh corrosion environments containing sulfur and NOx [1-9]. The research aimed to develop the casting technology of guide vanes from Ni-based superalloy. For aircraft engines characterized by low thrust, and thus small size, it is possible to cast: integral castings (guide vanes), and these one consisting of two rims (outer and inner) with a dozen or several dozen blades. In the case of large guide vanes a manufacturing process is very difficult and requires high technological knowledge.
