Abstract
In recent years, there has been an increased interest in the market of thermal insulation materials and trends in sustainable development. In this work, attention is focused on rigid polyurethane foam (RPUF), which is the most popular and the best thermal insulation material. The constantly growing demand for the production of rigid polyurethane foam influenced the development of research in this field. The purpose of the research is to reduce the production costs ofRPUF and to minimize the consumption of petrochemical products, while improving the properties of the manufactured polyurethane materials. This paper reviews research studies that concerned foam modification through the use of fillers. The modifiers(fillers) which are added in the RPUF production process, are waste generated by human activity and various industries. The paper assesses the use of fillers in the technology of polyurethane materials. The influence of the filler on the physical and mechanical properties as well as on the flammability of the composites is discussed. In addition, the possibility of recycling waste, which are often stored in a landfill and have negative environmental effects, has been shown.
