Abstract
Islanding detection is an important field of PMU usage. Avoiding unintentional islanding is often the main concern for distributed generation sources. It creates serious consequences for the power system and it can cause Health and Safety hazards for the personnel. In this work islanding detection method based on monitoring of synchrophasor is proposed and evaluated in laboratory tests. Passive and passive-communication based methods were implemented. A novel approach based on a characteristic shape observation was proposed. Conducted laboratory experiments proved that PMUs can be successfully used as a monitoring device for control purposes in islanding detection.
