Abstract
The concept of reduced-length directional couplers composed of two sections of coupled-lines having appropriate electrical lengths between which two uncoupled transmission-line sections are inserted, has been verified for differential excitation. It is shown, that broadband frequency characteristics, similar to the ones achieved for classic three-section couplers can be achieved with the use of the presented concept together with shorter electrical length of the overall circuit comparing to the classic solutions. A broadband differentially-fed directional coupler operating at the center frequency 1 GHz has been designed and measured.
