Abstract
The construction of high-pressure gas pipelines is an extremely expensive and logistically difficult engineering project. The basic methods of building gas pipelines include laying them in an open excavation. However, this technology is very harmful to the natural environment and sometimes even impossible to apply. In such cases, the latest technological solutions should be used, i.e. trenchless technologies such as Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD). The paper presents a method of evaluating the efficiency and quality of horizontal wells in HDD technology, worked out at the Department of Drilling and Geoengineering, Drilling Oil and Gas Faculty, AGH-UST. The variability of power used for drilling a pilot well, reaming and calibration cycle is calculated. On this basis the correctness of the applied drilling technique and technology can be evaluated in the context of the existing geological conditions. The power spent on performing specific well sections is established and its variability assessed. Power fluctuation reflects the variability of the geological and drilling conditions and degree to which the well has been cleaned. This method was used for calculations on industrial data from drilling in Poland. The summary of the article contains conclusions from the calculations and an analysis of their results. © 2019, International Multidisciplinary Scientific Geoconference. All rights reserved.
