Abstract
The article presents the proposition of numerical simulation of the sedimentation process in sedimentation devices, including the method of defining and validating the numerical model of the suspension. The proposal includes a proposal to define a suspension in numerical simulation as a multiphase system with a polydisperse grain composition. The article contains information on the method of defining a multi-phase system based on grain composition of a suspension. A proposal for verification of the numerical model for the high and low concentration system is presented. For the hindered sedimentation (high concentration) it was proposed to conduct validation based on the sedimentation test. For a low-concentration suspension, the use of a flow system with the verification of quantitative data, expressed by the flow rate and the suspension concentration at the inlet and outputs from the device, as well as using qualitative data describing their granulometric composition was proposed. The article also presents a proposal of methodology for numerical simulation of the sedimentation process in settling tanks, detailing the individual stages of modeling. © SGEM2018.
