Abstract
One of the most important diagnostic methods for assessment of the power transformers windings condition is the frequency response analysis (FRA) method based on wideband transfer function (TF) characteristics. These characteristics are affected not only by the mechanical deformations of the windings, but also by the changes in dielectric properties of the oil-paper insulating systems of transformer. Usually TF acquisition is realized by Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA) or Low Voltage Impulse (LVI) methods, which are off-line type methods. However, in power systems other wideband signals - e.g. voltage transients - can also occur and there is a possibility of using them for identification of the TF characteristics. Voltage transients can arise in "natural" way, (e.g. overvoltages) or alternatively can be artificially injected into transformer terminals. Purpose of this paper is to analyze properties of two different wideband signals, which can be utilized as excitation in on-line FRA transformer diagnostics.
