Abstract
The object of the study was to evaluate the effect of mechanical alloying (MA) process on the structure and mechanical properties of Fe-Mn-C PM steels. The basis powders were commercial Höganäs pre-alloyed powder NC 100.24, electrolytic cooper and ELKEM II ferromanganese admixed with carbon, added in the form of graphite powder grade C-UF. MA was conducted using CDIEM60 frequency inverter for 60 hours. MA was performed on 150 g mixtures: Fe + 1.5% Mn and Fe + 2% Mn + 4% Cu. After MA two mixtures with composites: Fe + 1.5% Mn + 4% Cu + 0.8% C and Fe + 2% Mn + 4% Cu + 0.8% C were prepared in Turbula mixer for 20 minutes. Following the mixing, green compacts (φ15x~4,5mm) were single pressed at 660 MPa with addition about 1% of glycerin. Sintering was carried out in a laboratory horizontal furnace at 1250°C for 60 minutes in 5%H2 – 95%N2 atmosphere. Cooling from sintering temperature was performed in two ways: using sinter-hardening technique (fast) and furnace cooling (slow).
